The Detroit Media Partnership, which operates the Free Press and the News, said today that it will lay off up to 150 employees in the face of continuing severe economic conditions.
About 1,600 workers work at the two newspapers and in the business operations of the partnership. The layoffs will be spread throughout the company, including about 25 positions to be eliminated in the Free Press newsroom.
The company said the layoffs were due to reduced advertising revenue and did not result from recent changes in the home delivery schedule of the Free Press and the News.
Details weren’t available on where the remainder of the layoffs will come.
